Welcome to Year 6 with Miss Hughes and Mrs Coaker.

Year 6  – Autumn Term

Welcome back to Stowford School and the Autumn Term in Year Six. We hope all our families have had a good break.

We have an extremely exciting start to the term with our residential visit to Beam House. The children will spend four nights in North Devon where they will be abseiling, surfing, zip-lining and creating memories to last a lifetime.

Back in school, the children will kick the term off by reading Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell, followed by Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. Our writing will focus on autobiographies and discursive speeches and our maths will centre around place value, the four operations and fractions.

In other areas, our art lessons will be based on work by Frida Kahlo and then move to painting and collage. In science, we will begin the year with a unit on electricity and then a unit on humans and animals where we will be learning about diet, nutrients, water and the circulatory system. We will be starting our first Charanga unit in music where we will sing, play glockenspiels and learn to improvise and compose. We will also have weekly geography and history lessons based on the Opening Worlds scheme.

PE days this term are Tuesdays and Fridays. The children will also be taught French by Mrs Kandes and RE by Mrs Ocean each Wednesday afternoon.

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
